An opportunity suddenly opened up to go to the beautiful Swiss Alps for a few days’ holiday. In sore need of a rest, off we went! To say that the scenery was stunning and breathtaking would not be doing it justice!! Such an exquisite display of the Creator’s endless artistry in the sparkling Summer sunshine. .
On our final evening in the lodge where we were staying, we were seated in the restaurant next to a couple from a different part of the UK. We got into easy conversation about underestimating the rigour of long Alpen walks whilst happily distracted by the beauty of the scenery – but then our muscles paying for it the following day!
At one point in the conversation, the gentleman – “Thomas” – realised he had eaten something decorative on his food to which his body is very intolerant. It was a very small amount, but even at that size he knew it could cause him major upset overnight. I assured him quietly that I would pray for that not to happen and for him to be perfectly alright with no side effects whatsoever. This led to Thomas asking me if I was into “things like that” – healing hands and so on? I explained simply that I am a believing believer who has seen Jesus take people’s pain and sickness away many, many times, to show them that He loves them.
Thomas himself described coming from a family with some background in spiritualist things, while his wife, “Lisa” had known an atheistic upbringing, which was still her stance today. Thomas half-jokingly said he could do with me doing the healing thing to his neck, which was painful and frustrating him. He didn’t know if he had pulled a muscle or if it was a kind of “crick” but it was a pain in every sense of the word.
The restaurant was full and adjoining tables were quite close to each other, so I was aware of needing to guard Thomas’ privacy and Lisa’s too. This was not the right place to pray for him. I assured him quietly that everything is possible with God who could certainly help his neck but left it there for the moment, as we were being served with the next part of the dinner.
Eventually, Thomas and Lisa went through to another part of the lodge to have coffee in one of the comfortable reception areas. I wasn’t quite sure where they had gone but, on my way out to our accommodation, I spotted them both in their little “coffee nook”. They were alone and no one else was nearby. Now was the opportunity to offer to pray for Thomas!
He seemed pleasantly surprised that I actually meant praying for him right here and now! He was very willing for me to pray – and his wife Lisa was happy too, something I was eager to check, as I would be placing my hand on his neck area and wanted her to be comfortable with that. The prayer was brief, I spoke in a quiet, calm voice but commanded all the muscles to be healed and the pain to go.
Now it was time for Thomas to check it out! He had that amazed, “what just happened” look as he moved his neck around. The pain had almost all gone and he kept saying “It just feels really light!” “That’s so weird!” Just one final little spot of pain was left – which went with the next prayer. Thomas said he felt amazing and just couldn’t get over how free his neck felt from the pain and stiffness before It was a beautiful opportunity to talk to Thomas – with Lisa listening on – about the kindness and intentionality of God to introduce Himself to us through a healing like this. It is a sign that He can heal not just our body but anything in our life. He wants to walk out life with us, in us. He loves us. He died on the cross to set us free from sin and from sickness.. Thomas seemed quite overcome by all this.
I sensed it was time to finish, so directed Thomas and Lisa to this blog if they would like to read more stories of everyday healing and God encounters. I hope they will read their own story here too! It was such a pleasure to meet them and to finish our Alpine adventure with a Jesus Adventure!! Please do pray for this dear couple. Jesus has many wonderful things yet to show them about Himself and His Kingdom so that they would want to join Him not just as followers but as His very own cherished brother and sister.
P.S Thomas messaged me once I was back int eh UK some days later. His neck continues to be happily free and he testified to having had NO side effects from the food he ate that night but had slept really soundly - something he would never have expected after eating such food and knowing the fallout of it on his body in past times! Hallelujah! Thank you Jesus! Healing and more healing on the heights!
